Clallam County Fire District No. 3 Commissioner Richard Houts has announced he will retire from the board June 30.
A new commissioner might be appointed at the next regular meeting July 8 at 1 p.m. at 323 N. Fifth Ave.
Houts, who announced his retirement Tuesday, said that after thoughtful consideration, he believed it was time to step down.
He thanked everyone for their support throughout the years and said he was sad to be leaving.
Houts has been a commissioner for the district for 17 years.
Before coming to Sequim, he was the chief engineer or fire chief for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Houts has been in the fire service for a total of 52 years.
