A fire swept through a maintenance and storage area at a popular Edmonds park overnight, damaging equipment, a storage building and surrounding trees. Firefighters responded to the scene, Edmonds City Park in the 600 block of 3rd Avenue South, at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. When crews arrived, they could see flames shooting 50 feet up into the trees at an Edmonds Parks Department shop site on the south end of the park, she said. "A storage building containing paper products and a flat-bed truck were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived," Hynes said. A trash bin was also ablaze. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames. No one was injured. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the flames and whether or not someone started it. Hynes said it appears the park will be open Wednesday.
