Odessa has become the hub for firefighter battling the Black Rock Road Fire
The Black Rock Fire, burning just a few mile west of Odessa, has reached 26,300 acres and is now 40% contained. Authorities have lifted evacuation orders. They said 25 homes were previously threatened by the fire, but that has since changed.
Odessa high school is serving as the command center for the Department of Natural Resources and other firefighters battling the flames. But this is not their first time helping out during wildfire season.
The camp started early Saturday afternoon and soon after the fire departments rolled in. For incoming senior, Zoe Clark, she is used to helping out. She is president of the Future Business Leaders of America group at the high school.
In 2015, the group helped feed firefighters fighting the Okanogan Fire with 1,500 meals. For their efforts, they won $35,000 for their school through the Lead2Feed program. This year the fire is now right at their door. They are helping to feed them once again. They are preparing 240 meals this time for the firefighters staying at the school.
