A wildfire has burned through an estimated 1,000 acres of land in Benton County. The South Ward Gap Fire started Sunday near Prosser. Flames threatened local homes, crops, power lines, and government and natural resources, Deputy State Fire Marshal Lysandra Davis said. Local and state firefighters are working to contain the fire. Air resources are assisting, officials said Sunday. The cause is under investigation, Davis said. The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray has been activated to Level 2. State fire marshal personnel plan to arrive on-scene soon to staff the center and coordinate resources.
