The blast in Greenwood blew off their helmets and pelted them with rubble, but the community gave those firefighters a special thanks Wednesday for the risks they are willing to take.
A team from fire station 21 was first on scene at a natural gas leak that filled a cluster of Greenwood businesses back on March 9, and they lived through the blast that has changed the community. For the 66th annual Seafair parade, organizers went for the theme "A Community United." They gave a special nod to the firefighters of station 21, naming them honorary grand marshals for their actions the night of the explosion.
