Two adults were displaced after a Monday night house fire in Kent. Kent firefighters were called to the two-story house in the 14500 block of Southeast 275th Place about 10:30 p.m. after the occupants called 911 to report a stove top fire was spreading to the walls and cabinets in the kitchen. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the second story of the house and one of the two occupants was still inside. After entering the house, the firefighters found one person downstairs and helped them get out safely. The second person escaped safely on their own. Flames from the stove went through the ventilation system and spread to the attic, but did not get to other parts of the house as firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Smoke and heat melted blinds and blackened walls on the second floor, but the fire was limited to the kitchen area. The fire investigator determined that the fire was caused by unattended food on the stove. There were no working smoke alarms in the upstairs of the home.
