Horsethief Butte Fire Burns Near Goldendale in Klickitat County

"State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Horsethief Butte Fire located approximately three miles northeast of Dallesport in Klickitat County. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on September 13, 2015, at 3:15 pm at the request of Chief Rhet Howard with the Klickitat County Fire District 6. The fire started at approximately 12:20 pm on September 13, 2015. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The fire has grown to an estimated 2,000 acres and is threatening homes and infrastructure. No homes have been lost at this time. Level 2 evacuation orders are in place. Mobilization specialists from the Fire Protection Bureau have ordered a 10 wildland engines and 2 tenders to supplement the resources already fighting the fire. The State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Camp Murray has been activated to Phase III to coordinate state assistance for the Horsethief Butte Fire. Personnel from the State Fire Marshal’s Office will be on scene to coordinate dispatch of resources, and other personnel will staff the State EOC."
