The Yakima Fire Department says the old swimming pool house for the old Washington pool at Martin Luther King Park caught on fire Friday morning. Firefighters say the fire broke out at the building at the corner of Race St. and S 8th St. around 4:30 a.m. Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly. They say the wooden roof of the building was charred but it is still functional After an investigation, firefighters say the fire started after someone intentionally set a nearby portable toilet on fire. Flames then extended to the old pool house. No one was injured.
