Two adults and a small child are dead after a house fire about two miles west of Wapato early this morning.
Joe Boehme, Jr. and Viola Stahi, both believed to be in their mid-20s, died at the scene. A two-year-old child, Madison Stahi Boehme, was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a local hospital, according to information supplied by Yakima Fire District No. 5 and the Yakima County Coroner’s Office.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire was reported at about 1:40 a.m. at a double wide manufactured home at 2251 W. Wapato Road. When the first of about 20 firefighters arrived, they discovered smoke coming from the home, according to a news release issued by the fire district. Yakima County sheriff’s deputies already on the scene told firefighters that they had opened the front door and could see a person, but were unable to reach them, the release said.
Firefighters then entered the home, removed the first person and after a search found the two others, the release said.
CPR was begun on all three, firefighters said. A second search of the home found no other occupants.
