An early-morning fire has badly damaged part of a Spokane Valley church.
Around 3 a.m. Thursday, Spokane Valley Fire Department was called to the Spokane Baptist Church on 12915 E. Broadway for a reported fire. When they got there, the firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the roof as well as a fire on the back-end of a nearby building.
One that fire was extinguished, the firefighters realized the fire had spread to the attic. The fire spread very quickly, but firefighters were able to knock it down and keep it contained to the attic area.
The church building, used as a meeting room and Sunday school area, suffered smoke and water damage throughout the entire building. The roof suffered major fire damage.
The building will possibly be a complete loss because of the amount of roof damage.
