Firefighters responded to a Lakewood office space Wednesday for a possible hazardous materials incident, West Pierce Fire & Rescue said. The agency said about 2 p.m. that an odor had been reported in the business, which is at the Lakewood Towne Center. Crews evacuated the office and evaluated five patients at the scene, who West Pierce said were stable. Shortly thereafter, crews said they were taking one person to a hospital as a precaution. No other businesses were affected. The Pierce County Hazardous Incident Team was called, and other agencies were on the way. West Pierce initially said the incident happened at a nail salon, but clarified later that it happened at an office space.
