First responders investigated a FedEx truck that caught fire on I-44 Thursday night. It happened on the southbound interstate lanes near where Sheppard Road intersects I-44. After the FedEx truck caught fire, parts of the surrounding grass near the highway lanes also caught fire. The Burkburnett Police Department said I-44 was shut down in both directions for close to an hour beginning around 6 p.m. on September 19. First responders with the Burkburnett Fire Department and the Friberg-Cooper Volunteer Fire Department were able to put the flames out during that hour. The highway is back open now, but first responders are still investigating what caused the fire. BPD’s preliminary report indicated the fire stemmed from something under the hood of the truck, eventually spreading throughout the vehicle.
