Authorities are currently investigating a house fire that claimed the lives of a woman and one of her dogs.
Valley News Live has confirmed with authorities in Sargent County that a woman called 911 just before 4 a.m., Sunday, April 14, but dispatchers lost contact with her.
Gwinner fire crews reportedly found the woman in an upstairs room, she was taken to a healthcare facility in Lisbon where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities say that a man was also in the home at the time the fire started and was able to get out along with two other dogs.
The preliminary report shows that the fire may have started in the basement of the home, and officials say there is nothing suspicious about it at this time.
A firefighter on scene was treated for smoke inhalation.
Officials say they plan to release the name of the woman within the next few days.
