A south Fargo home was damaged after a garbage can at the home caught fire overnight. Fire crews were called just before 11:20 p.m. Wednesday night, April 10, to 28 Fremont Dr. S for a report of a structure fire. Fire crews told our reporter on scene that the homeowner had thrown out embers from a smoker into a garbage can that were not fully put out, causing it to catch fire outside of the home. The battalion chief on scene says the estimated cost of damage is around $5,000. Crews say the steel siding helped the fire from spreading quickly. The Fargo Fire Department wants to remind everyone to make sure wood chips and embers are completely out before you dispose of them.
