A 45-year-old Bismarck man is in the hospital after he allegedly set fire to his residence in the 600 block of South 9th Street while officers of the US Marshals High Plains Fugitive Task Force tried to arrest him Wednesday on outstanding felony Burleigh County warrants. Authorities were investigating a tip that the man was at his residence when they arrived a little after 3:00 p.m. April 10 to take him into custody. The man had warrants for failing to appear on numerous different cases and charges. Officers say the individual barricaded himself in a room at the residence and did not follow officers’ commands to come out. While trying to negotiate him out of the room, a fire erupted in the room. The Bismarck Fire Department, Metro Ambulance, and West Dakota SWAT were called to the scene to assist with the fire and getting the man into custody safely for himself and all involved.
