A 61-year-old man found unconscious by the waters near Jeff’s Pirates Cove on Labor Day died from asphyxia due to drowning, said Dr. Aurelio Espinola, chief medical examiner. After conducting an autopsy on the man's body on Wednesday, Espinola identified the man as Godo Echon and ruled his death an accident. Guam Fire Department officials responded to Jeff’s Pirates Cove at about 5:20 a.m. Monday for a possible drowning. Medics conducted CPR on him at the Ipan scene as well as on the way to Naval Hospital Guam. Echon's death marks the 10th water-related fatality of the year, according to Pacific Daily News files.
