VIDEO: A new firefighter workforce training program is coming this fall to Leon High School. High school seniors will have the chance to learn what it takes to be a firefighter and possibly land a job with the Tallahassee Fire Department. Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hanna announced the new program during a press conference in front of Leon High on Tuesday morning. Hanna was joined by Leon High Principal Michael Bryan. The principal said he hasn’t been satisfied with the high school dropout and graduation rates. He hopes the training program will motivate students to get their high school diploma and also provide an option for those not planning to attend college. According to the Florida Department of Education, the graduation rate for Leon County Schools in 2023 was 86%, which is lower than the pre-pandemic rate of 94%.
