Preparations are underway inside the St. Johns County Emergency Operations Center as the uncertainty continues around Hurricane Irma.
The EOC was open Tuesday at a Level 3 (Monitoring), which means working models every six hours and having people man phones. If the EOC was fully activated, News4Jax was told every chair inside the building -- located off Interstate 95 near State Road 16 -- would have someone in it, working the emergency. Inside the building on Tuesday, the video screens and computer monitors were up as team members tracked the tropics and firefighters answered phone calls.
St. Johns County Emergency Management Director Linda Stoughton said she was excited about the phones ringing, because that means people are asking important questions and getting important answers.
