Hartford: Hazmat teams responded to the scenes where a white powdery substance was found

Authorities in two towns are investigating a total of four incidents involving a suspicious white powder. Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, part of a state office building in Hartford was evacuated on after a suspicious package was found. The package was found to have a white powdery substance inside it when it was discovered at the state's Dept. of Education office, located at 450 Columbus Blvd. Police said roughly 35 people were in the area where the envelope was found and were evacuated. Officers had blocked off Columbus Boulevard and Talcott Street Wednesday afternoon. On Wednesday afternoon, Tom Carson from the state's Dept. of Justice, said law enforcement officials were aware of "multiple white powder incidents," which have reached a total of four at this point. Right before 5 p.m., Hartford police confirmed a person connected to the incidents is in custody. He was identified as 51-year-old Gary Joseph Gravelle, of New Haven.
