Obituary: Joseph R. Bozenski, Longtime Torrington firefighter

Joseph R. “Bob” Bozenski, 97, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Bozenski, who died in 2000. Joseph was born in Torrington on Jan. 1, 1921, a lifelong resident. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the battleship USS New York in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Returning to Torrington, he joined the Torrington Fire Department and served for 36 years, retiring in 1982 as deputy chief. He also served in the Boston Army Base in 1957 in charge of fire protection and prevention at Nike missile sites constructed throughout New England.
