VIDEO: A suspected arsonist was arrested after police report multiple vehicle fires that threatened structures in Old Colorado City.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded near Pikes Peak and 27th for a vehicle fire in an alleyway threatening structures, including a fully involved townhome fire. No one was home, although firefighters rescued a dog who received supplemental oxygen.
About 20 minutes later and a half mile down the road, another vehicle fire threatening a structure was reported near Kiowa and 24th, followed by a third fire about an hour later and another half mile down the road near Kiowa and 27th.
Police learned the suspect possibly had stolen a handgun from one of the vehicles, so a shelter in place order was issued for Old Colorado City just before 11 p.m. Sunday, which was lifted about an hour later.
