Chief Mark Frasco conceded a request for a new command unit Tuesday night in exchange for other considerations in the Fort Morgan Fire Department's 2019 budget request. Members of the volunteer department have renewed a focus on safety and security, he said, and his budget request presented to city council reflects those priorities. "The highest mortality among firefighters is from cancer," Frasco said. "This is attributed to fires." He has asked city council to support a request to purchase a second set of bunker gear for all department members and a "giant" washing machine that he says can't just be purchased at Sears. "It is a safety issue to us," Frasco said. "We don't have anyone with cancer attributed to service in the fire department."
