A water-main break at the Roaring Fork Apartments in Basalt forced the evacuation of all 77 residents of the affordable-housing complex on Tuesday afternoon. Damage, including flooding, was confined to the first floor of the 57-unit, four-story complex, which is located at 111 Emma Road. The apartment building is considered “uninhabitable and unsafe,” and residents are expected to be displaced for many weeks, according to a news release from the Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District. No injuries were reported. Basalt fire and police responded to the incident first around 12:15 p.m., and were followed by emergency personnel from several other agencies, including the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.
