Kern Fire officials said the department's Urban Search and Rescue Team rescued a woman from a chimney on Thursday evening. Around 5:30 p.m., firefighters found that a woman was stuck inside a chimney in the 1800 block of Chevy Way, said officials. They arrived on scene and found a woman stuck in the chimney, right above the flume. Fire crews found the woman was breathing and conscious, but was under severe distress due to the tight conditions. She was reportedly injured, but further was unknown. Urban Search and Rescue responded shortly later. Ropes and oxygen were lowered for the woman, but she was not able to get free or use the oxygen. Crews removed brick and mortar, and about an hour later, the woman was freed after crews used specialized tools to open the exterior of the chimney.
