There may be no scientific studies to support it, but available evidence suggests Safford Fire Chief Clark Bingham and Duncan Valley Rural Fire District Chief Hayden Boyd have fire abatement imbedded in their DNA. Both men grew up with alarm bells, sirens, emergency lights, hook and ladder rigs, and fire hoses. Bingham's father, Craig Bingham, was a firefighter for roughly 40 years. He is one of six men with the surname Bingham credited with serving in the Safford Fire Department between 1907 and 1981 in local historian Eloise Talley's "History of the Safford Fire Department & Its Men" (self-published, copyright 1983). Craig Bingham Craig Bingham was one of several firefighting Binghams profiled in Eloise Talley's 1983 book, "History of the Safford Fire Department & Its Men (1907 to 1981)." “I was around it all my life," Clark Bingham said.
