VIDEO: A firefighter was taken to the hospital after a fire burned a house and surrounding brush in Laveen on Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at a property in the area of 59th Avenue and Dobbins Road, just east of the Loop 202 South Moutain Freeway. An ADOT camera in the vicinity captured flames and heavy black smoke. When crews arrived, the flames coming from the home started to extend to nearby dried brush and vegetation. Crews got the fire under control around 3 p.m. Phoenix Fire officials believe the house is vacant, and no injuries have been reported. One firefighter was overcome by the heat and hospitalized in stable condition, fire crews said. The cause is under investigation. Firefighters from Phoenix, Avondale, and Tolleson fire departments helped put out the flames.
