Local heroes were honored Tuesday at the annual police and fire awards luncheon in Little Rock.
The event hosted by the Rotary Club of Little Rock at the Clinton Presidential Library paid tribute to the men and women of the Little Rock Police Department and the Little Rock Fire Department.
"When there's tragedy and when things hit, we step up to the plate," said Little Rock Police Chief Heath Helton. "We do that without even blinking an eye, without even thinking, it becomes second nature to us to respond to put our lives on the line every day, it's part of the job."
The Little Rock Fire Chief Delphone Hubbard nominated the firefighters of Fire Station 9 for the People of the Year award. Fire Station 9 was destroyed during the catastrophic EF-3 tornado that hit the city on March 31, 2023.
