Casey Duvall has found herself inside an overturned vehicle, trying to provide aid to a victim, and at the same time wondering if the car was stable enough to stay upright.
“We’ve had to have firefighters standing, pushing to hold the cars up while we were inside trying to check on the victim, or even give medical attention,” said Duvall, a member of the Zip City Volunteer Fire Department.
“A rollover or a vehicle off the roadway in a ditch is never a good situation,” said Zip City Fire Chief Robin Mitchell. “They are dangerous on the victims as well as the firefighters trying to get to them to provide medical aid.
“Vehicles are more aerodynamic and if they are upside down, they can start turning while you are inside with the patient. You need something to stabilize them,” he said.
