Former Shreveport Fire Chief Craig Mulford, who lost his job after being accused of impeding a police investigation into the mistreatment of two mentally challenged men who were regular visitors at a fire station, has reached an agreement with the city where he was reinstated with back pay and then immediately resigned. Mulford, who eventually was cleared of the criminal charges, will receive back pay dating to the time of his firing three years ago, plus additional retirement benefits that include a lump-sum payment into his retirement account. Further details of the six-figure settlement were not immediately available from the city administration. One person familiar with the case said back pay of approximately $12,000 per month was involved.
