Warren firefighters, digging with their bare hands and metal shovels, rescued a Howell man trapped in a collapsed trench on Tuesday, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said.
The 37-year-old man was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where he was in serious condition, the mayor wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday. He said in his post that the unnamed man faces serious "crush injury" from the impact of clay and the threat of shock.
Fouts told the Free Press today that he is awaiting an update on the man, but that authorities were working to save his legs from amputation.
