PHOTOS - Sixty people are without a home today after a seven-alarm blaze tore through a Reading condo complex, where about 100 firefighters were called to help contain the fire.
Abby Brennan, who lives on the fourth floor, said she heard a fire alarm go off, opened her door and made her way down through the smoke with her 4-year-old son.
“Outside, you could see smoke coming from the fourth floor,” she said, “and it just spread from there.”
She was still looking for her two cats, Lucy and Blue, yesterday.
More than 100 firefighters from Reading and as far away as Boston and Lynn responded to the blaze, which broke out at about 1:15 p.m., when smoke in a fourth-floor unit at 52 Sanborn St. set off a fire alarm in the building, Reading Fire Chief Gregory Burns said.
