VIDEO - An American flag is flying once again in the yard of a 91-year-old World War II veteran in Nashua. Richard Chasse's flag and flag pole were stolen weeks ago, but members of the Nashua Fire Department thought he should have a new one, especially with Memorial Day coming. The World War II veteran said his flag and flag pole were stolen about six weeks ago. "When I went by one morning, I noticed it was gone," he said. "It used to be on the corner over there, so I said, 'Where the heck did that go?'" Chasse said he was disappointed and told a couple of Nashua firefighters what happened. Chasse spent more than three decades with the Fire Department. "They passed the hat amongst themselves," Assistant Chief Brian Rhodes said. "They just feel we couldn't let a member of the greatest generation and a member who served their city so proudly for 36 years to go through Memorial Day without a flag." The firefighters raised the money and donated their labor.
