VIDEO - The Bay City Department of Public Safety has shared two new videos showing the public how its officers transition from a law enforcement officer to a firefighter. The videos were posted on the agency's Facebook page the morning of Friday, July 29. They depict public safety officers Eric Sporman and Brandon Murphy simulating how they would respond to a structure fire. The videos were recorded in the parking lot of the Bay County Law Enforcement Center. "The intent of the videos is to give the public an idea of the amount of time it takes a PSO to remove their law enforcement equipment and don their turnout gear," the video's caption states. "The average time it takes is two minutes. In the first video, you will see that despite PSO Sporman encountering an issue with the liner of his coat being twisted, it only takes him approximately 2 minutes and 15 seconds to remove his law enforcement equipment and don his turnout gear." The second video shows Murphy donning his fire gear from a storage bag. "This is how turnout gear is stored at the Law Enforcement Center and would be a typical way for a public safety officer who is not assigned to patrol duties to respond to a fire situation," the caption states. "PSO Murphy achieves a time of 2:36."
