Fire investigators discovered two illegal hash-oil extraction operations inside the Nederland home that caught fire following an explosion Monday afternoon, seriously burning two people inside.
Steve Pischke, who works with the Multi-Agency Fire Investigations Team, said investigators found one of the operations inside the garage — where the explosion occurred and the fire started — and another in a separate room.
"The extraction of hash oil in a residential setting is illegal," Pischke said Tuesday. "There are licenses and laws on the books for that."
A marijuana grow was found in the basement of the home at 99 Pinecliff Trail as well, he said, but its legality is still being determined.
Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said his office is trying to determine whether arson charges are warranted.
