A man who was days away from being voted in as an active member of the Francestown Fire Department died over the weekend after suffering a medical emergency. Francestown officials said Cole Wohle, 18, died Saturday night in Vermont. He recently graduated from high school and was a member of the Fire Department's Explorer Program.
"It's definitely something that is hard to understand, how this could happen to such a young man who had such a bright future," Chief Larry Kullgren said.
Wohle died after he finished riding a horse in a rodeo in Castleton, Vermont. Kullgren said that Wohle suffered an unknown medical emergency.
"The medical examiner's office from the state of Vermont will release that later today, and we will find out what exactly transpired in the event that he suffered," Kullgren said.
Kullgren said that Wohle joined the Explorer Program four years ago. The program gives children ages 14-18 the opportunity to get involved in the fire service.
