The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) - Great Lakes Division represents the states of Illinois Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and WisconsinThe Board of Directors is comprised of a State Representative from each of the six states who are elected to three year terms. The "Executive Officers" are elected by the membership at large and includes the President and Vice President who serve two year terms. Our International Director - the person who represents our Division on the International Board - is elected to a three year term as is our Secretary/Treasurer.

During the Annual Great Lakes Division meeting last August at FRI in Atlanta, Chief Randy Bruegman from Fresno, California did the honors of swearing in several new members to the Board of Directors. The new members are: Chief Hank Clemmensen from Inverness, Illinoisas President; Nyle Zikmund from Spring Lake Park, >Minnesota as Vice-President; Bill Mund from St. Cloud, Minnesota as the Minnesota Representative; Scott Skeldon from Plain City, Ohio as the Ohio Representative.

At our annual meeting, President >Hank Clemmensen also announced that Chief Kenn Taylor will be appointed as the Great Lakes Director since Chief Larry Grorud is stepping down to become the 2nd Vice-President of the IAFC. This appointment is until the next annual meeting when a member of the Corporation will be elected for a full three (3) year term.

These new members join current members: Chief Timm Schabbel from Clay Fire Territory, Indiana; Chief William Schmidt from Walker, Michigan; Chief Jeff Macko from Cary, Illinois and Chief Jeff Stauber from Green Bay, Wisconsin as your new Great Lakes Division Board of Directors.

At the annual conference in Atlanta, we were saddened to report that Chief Ron Hutchings (Retired), Secretary/Treasurer of the Great Lakes Division, succumbed to his illness on August 24th. Chief Hutchings was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs since 1969 and was elected to the office of Secretary/Treasurer of the Great Lakes Division in 1994. With the passing of Chief Hutchings, the Board of Directors was tasked with finding a replacement Secretary/Treasurer and setting up a new office. During the month of September the Board reviewed resumes from our membership and confirmed the President’s selection of Chief Tim Farmer (Retired) from Coon Rapids, Minnesota as the new Great Lakes Division Secretary/Treasurer until the next annual meeting when a member of the Corporation will be elected for a full three (3) year term.

Welcome New Members!
