Riverside Fire & Rescue is seeking applications to fill our open Fire Chief position.  The District serves a population of approximately 4,000, with a response area of six square miles, and is located between Tacoma and Puyallup, WA, along the Puyallup River.  Personnel respond and operate out of one station with one paid Fire Chief, one full time Battalion Chief, one part-time District Secretary and approximately 35 volunteers. 

Working under the direction of the Board of Fire Commissioner, the Fire Chief will plan, direct, manage and implement the operations of the Fire Department including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and related programs, services and operations, including responding to incidents.  The Fire Chief will also facilitate daily administration duties: payroll and purchasing; development of annual budget; monitoring and approving expenditures; risk management; and the planning, development, and implementation of policies and procedures; recruiting, mentoring, and leading volunteer members. 



-          An AA degree in Fire Science, Business Management or closely related field from an accredited university or college

-          Current Washington State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician

-          Pierce County Protocol Certification (within 120 days of employment)

-          Five years fire service operational experience in a combination department/district

-          At least five years supervisory experience with both career and volunteer firefighters

-          Valid driver’s license with good driving history (Washington license within 6 months of employment)

Certifications and/or License Requirements

-          Firefighter II (IFSAC)

-          Fire Instructor I or higher (IFSAC)

-          Fire Officer I or higher (IFSAC) (within one year of employment)

-          Washington State EMT or NR EMT

-          Blue Card Certification (within one year of employment)

-          ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, and IS 700, 800

-          Incident Safety Officer 

Special Requirements

-          The Fire Chief must possess a degree of physical fitness that allows participation as a working member on all responses

-          Weekend work, duty chief rotation, attendance at evening meetings as required

-          Speak the English language

-          Reside within 10 minutes of the Fire District boundary within one year of employment
