Colfax Fire Department achieves a class 2/9E rating

Colfax, NC

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey along with staff of the Office of State Fire Marshall's rating division, visited Colfax  Fire Department on the evening of November 2nd and presented the results of our Fire District rural rating inspection. The inspection, conducted by officials with the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), is required on a regular basis as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System (NCRRS). Among other things, the routine inspections look for proper staffing levels, sufficient equipment, proper maintenance of equipment, communications capabilities and availability of water sources.

Effective February 2, 2018 Colfax Fire Department’s NCRRS grade will be a class 2/9E. Of the fifteen hundred plus rated North Carolina Fire Departments, Colfax is the first and currently the only rural non-municipal department to achieve a class 2 rating. The departments current grade is a class 6.

Obviously our personnel, our Board of Directors and the members of our community are proud to announce this significant achievement. In addition to the hard work of our personnel we would like to say thank you to each of our automatic aid departments which plays a major part thru response and training contributing in our overall accomplishment.

"I'd like to congratulate Chief Robinson for the department's performance and for the hard work of all the department members," said Commissioner Causey. "The citizens of Colfax Fire district should rest easy knowing they have a fine group of firefighters protecting them and their property in case of an emergency."
