A crew of Madison firefighters were forced to shelter in their truck for several hours Tuesday night after their ladder was hooked by a low-hanging power line. An MFD spokesperson said that Ladder Co. 1 was returning from a call just before 11:30 p.m. when the vehicle got snared along North Bedford Street. A tree branch had knocked the power line off of a nearby house, and the firefighters couldn't see it because of poor visibility caused by Tuesday night's thunderstorm. The power line was energized, and hooked between two lights on the truck's aerial ladder. Madison police blocked off traffic in the area so that drivers would not be exposed to any hazards. Firefighters sheltered in place until Madison Gas and Electric crews could arrive at the scene. Ladder Co. 1 was able to return to service at around 3:45 a.m.
