Working smoke detectors alerted the owner of a house in the Town of Union to a fire, according to Mason Barber, Brooklyn Fire and EMS operations chief. Firefighters were called to 16547 West Holt Road, near Brooklyn at about 5:30 a.m. Monday. The property owner reported the fire and said there were visible flames. He said those in the home were evacuating. A Rock County sheriff's deputy confirmed flames were coming from the roof. Additional resources from neighboring fire departments was called in. Barber said the incident address is an area of the Brooklyn Fire & EMS Protection District that is not serviced by municipal fire hydrants. Water for fire suppression was supplied by trucks that responded to the call, and a fill site was established in the Village of Brooklyn.
