VIDEO: Camp Hero continues at Madison College, and on Tuesday high school girls learned more about firefighters.
The camp is a summer experience designed to introduce girls to careers in police, fire and EMS.
Tuesday, the senior girls camp had the opportunity to be sized for fire gear. Erin Blankenheim has attended the camp for 13 years and continues to see just how valuable it is.
“No matter what, you’re going to learn so many things about yourself and do a lot of hard things and that’s a great thing about it,” said Blankenheim. “And if you’re a volunteer, you get to experience so many new things and you get to help girls grow into themselves and be in a great community.”
Blankenheim is one of 27 campers at Camp Hero this year, including eight girls from out of state.
