VIDEO: Madison Fire Department crews worked overnight Friday, trying to determine the cause of the fire that burned down the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Agricultural Research Station.
Crews first received the call around 6 p.m. Friday night. They stayed on the scene overnight working into Saturday afternoon to put out any remaining hot spots.
One firefighter tells 27 News, the fire was burning deep under the bales of hay in the barn.
"When that happens, it's really hard to put it out. You can pour water on it all day, all week. Unless that water can penetrate the hay, it's not going to put the fire out," said firefighter James Tokarski.
Tokarski noted the importance of having a crew at the scene overnight.
A shed, barn and farm equipment have been ruled a total loss.
No injuries have been reported.
