4-year-old rescued in Racine duplex fire by firefighters

A 4-year-old boy was rescued from a burning duplex by Racine firefighters on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2024, in a dramatic response to a Racine duplex fire on Douglas Avenue. The Racine Fire Department responded to the 2000 block of Douglas Avenue at 2:21 p.m. for a reported bedroom fire in an upper/lower duplex apartment, according to a press release by the Racine Fire Department. Upon arrival at 2:26 p.m., Engine 2 encountered heavy fire and smoke pouring from a bedroom window in the lower unit. Firefighters advanced a hose line into the unit and initiated an interior fire attack, quickly controlling the blaze. Concurrently, crews began searching for the missing child reported to be inside the building. The child was found at approximately 2:30 p.m. by the lieutenant of Engine 2, hiding under a bed in a bedroom adjacent to the fire room.
