VIDEO/PHOTOS: The flooding from Hurricane Helene destroyed mountain towns and communities in western North Carolina. The damage is substantial. The Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Team has been deployed and Caleb Freeman, with the Redmond Fire Department, is on the ground. Freeman is one of four people from western Washington who have traveled to the southeast region. Freeman said he arrived early Saturday morning and has been working since that point. Right now, he does not know when he’ll be coming back home. “We’re covering, I believe, 12 counties right now,” Freeman said. “Buncombe County, McDowell, Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, Polk, Rutherford. Asheville is one of the cities that’s in there. Marion is the largest city in McDowell County.”
