PHOTOS: Inspired by his will to overcome and adapt despite the odds, local firefighters are banding together to raise money for 18-year-old Ben Belino of Ephrata on June 1. The Grant County Fire District 3 station in Quincy is holding a pancake feed for the purpose of fundraising for Belino, a fellow firefighter. Belino joined Fire District 3 when he was 16 in 2022. It was in October of 2022 when Belino lost his leg as the result of a Quincy area crash he was involved in while he was traveling home from firefighting training. The aim of the pancake feed is to raise the $20,000 needed to buy Ben a prosthetic leg designed for firefighting. The equipment will help Ben fulfill his dream to pursue a firefighting career. Ben is a para-athlete who won the WIAA State Cross Country Wheelchair Championship in the the fall of 2023.
