While two Gonzaga University students were sleeping, a man broke into the home they rent on East Augusta Avenue, barricaded himself in one of the bedrooms and lit the door on fire, before he was arrested by police early Monday morning.
“Just another day, another life,” Thomas Follet, one of the students, said.
Just off Hamilton and across the street from Safeway, Thomas Follet lives on Augusta Avenue with Patrick Carney and another roommate. Between Follet and Carney, they’ve spent a few semesters in this neighborhood, and they have a few more to go, headed into their senior year at Gonzaga. Living in this part of town, out of Gonzaga security jurisdiction, the students said Crime Check is on speed dial.
“You really just learn to live with them, especially once the bus drops people off you get an influx,” Follet said.
