VIDEO: A woman survived a 300-foot fall in the Columbia River Gorge, and the incident is renewing safety concerns for hikers in the gorge as the weather warms up. Dog Mountain, located on the north side of the Columbia River Gorge, is full of stunning views of Pacific Northwest beauty - but it is home to one of the most difficult hikes in the area. "There are enough switchbacks that when you turn the corner and look up and see how steep it is... you just know that yup, you gotta do it,” warned Portland resident Scott Kaul, who had just finished the six-mile round trip hike. The route's precarious nature means even the most experienced hikers can end up getting hurt, as Rebecca Holley, 63, of Hillsboro, Ore., learned when she made the trip with friends.
