Walla Walla County Fire District #4 want to put the first levy lid lift in 40 years on the August 6th election ballot and the community is invited to listen in. Board of Fire Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the levy on March 13, 2024, to deliberate on a resolution. The meeting will be at 4 p.m. at Station 41, located at 2251 S. Howard Street. Revenue generated from the current fire levy is failing to match the increasing costs associated with providing emergency services. These costs exhibit an annual increase of 4 to 5 percent, whereas the fire district is constrained by state law, limiting revenue escalation to 1 percent annually. Emergency responders are facing a surge in service calls, with call volumes experiencing a 30 percent uptick from 2018 to 2022.
