VIDEO/PHOTOS: An investigation is underway to determine what caused a Sound Transit bus to lose control and crash into the side of a building in downtown Seattle over the weekend.
11 people were taken to the hospital with injuries from the crash. One person had critical injuries and remains at Harborview Medical Center in satisfactory condition, according to hospital staff.
The driver of the bus told first responders that the brakes on the bus failed while he was driving on 5th Avenue approaching a curve near Yesler Way on Saturday evening.
The bus left the roadway, took out a tree, barreled over a set of stairs, and then crashed into a cement retaining wall that is attached to an office building. Sound Transit officials said Monday the cause of the crash has not been determined.
