300-acre Pioneer Fire near Chelan may have started as structure fire, officials say

VIDEO: Level 3 Evacuation orders were issued Sunday in the Rex Creek area of Lake Chelan due to a wildfire that has grown to 300 acres, according to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR responded to the Pioneer Fire located approximately 31 miles northwest of Chelan near the east shore. The fire was estimated at 300 acres. It was first reported June 8 at 12:45 p.m. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) issued a Level 3 Evacuation for the Rex Creek area and a Level 1 Fire Advisory for the North Shore of Lake Chelan between Canoe Creek and Meadow Creek. The fire burned grass and timber, according to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Officials suspect the fire began as a structure fire that spread to the wildland.
